Welcome to Nokomis Montessori South

Carefully Prepared Environments

Teachers at Nokomis Montessori South help students choose their work in carefully prepared, peaceful environments; students use beautifully designed hands-on materials to practice and understand skills and concepts.

Two young children, a boy and a girl, are sitting on the floor of a colorful and well-equipped classroom, engaged in reading and playing with toys. The background features shelves filled with various educational materials and supplies, suggesting an engaging learning environment.
Peace & Social Justice Education

Our program has a focus on peace and social justice education. This takes many forms, both teaching children how to be in community together through a series of grace and courtesy lessons and providing ongoing opportunities for children to learn about themselves and others.

Three young girls in colorful clothing are engaged in an outdoor activity, such as gardening or planting, in a backyard setting with various toys and equipment visible in the background.
Learning Extends Beyond the Classroom

At Nokomis Montessori South, learning extends beyond our in-school classrooms. This might include, for example, planned field trips into the community, collaborative projects around the school (e.g., planting gardens), inviting artists or other community members in to share about their work, or unstructured play time outdoors.

Building a Strong Community

At Nokomis Montessori South, our multiage classrooms support students in forming strong relationships--both with peers and with staff members. In addition, we bring community members in to share their experiences and perspectives, broadening our community beyond the school walls.
